My name is Savannah Winston and I am your 2018-2019 Equality & Justice Committee director! If you are interested in social advocacy, then this is the place for you! This year, my co-director, Jasmyne Post, and I hope to put on some amazing events geared towards educating the UofL community on current equality & justice related issues in America and how we as students can fix them. We are prepared to fuel the fire of however many advocates we make an impression on, so get ready to step up, show out, and be the change our society so badly needs! Our first set of events for the year will be an event series we named “This is America.” (Obviously inspired by the amazing Donald Glover!) Separated into three parts, each This is America event will cover an aspect of America that either needs work or has problems that need more exposure. By the end of these events, students should be equipped with not only more knowledge about some of America’s unjust systems, but also the tools needed to crack these systems and make corrections as needed. If you are interested in planning these events or getting involved with the other things the Equality & Justice Committee does, feel free to join Jasmyne and I every Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 in W107 in the SAC! If you have any questions, comments, ideas, or concerns, please shoot us an email! We can be reached at savannah.winston@uoflelsb.org or jasmine.post@uoflelsb.org
